Have you been waiting for music that is, in equal parts, mariachi and metal? You’d better check out La Cigarra, the third single from Cabrakaän’s much-anticipated upcoming full-length release Aztlán.
We’re thrilled to share with you this latest collaboration with Cabrakaän (featuring Reed Alton of Osyron)!
An Homage to Mexican Culture
Mexico has a rich, complex history with many layers: La Cigarra celebrates this by building on a contemporary classic, adding a tinge of heavy metal. Originally written by Raymundo Perez y Soto and popularized by Linda Ronstadt, La Cigarra depicts a singer so passionate about her craft that she’d die for it. Just as the cicada.
The Visuals
Paying homage to the Mexican roots of the song and the band’s freshly planted roots in Canada, the video first depicts the singer crossing through a grassy field as she reflects on her passion. These shots are contrasted by a scene that draws on colourful aesthetics found in Mexican culture.
We had an incredible experience working with the band for this video production. Let us know what you think in the comments!
