Melodeath Maelstrom: Insomnium with Omnium Gatherum and Wilderun

Finland’s iconic melodeath mainstays Insomnium played a sold-out Dickens Pub in Calgary last week, and we had the chance to check it out! We’ve collaborated with Metal-Rules.com to photograph and review the event. Check out the photo recap here, and head over to Metal-Rules.com for the full review!

Kicking off the night were American melodic prog-metallers Wilderun, a fantastic and technically proficient group of honest-to-goodness musicians. Best suited to fans of Opeth, the band put on a mellow, deeply enjoyable set filled with complex progressions:

Finland’s Omnium Gatherum followed suit and picked up the pace with a high energy, riff-heavy, infectious set well-fitted for headbangers:

Headliners Insomnium took to the stage and brought their very best riffs, headbangs, hair-swishes and melodic death metal magic:

Each band brought its own unique energy and contributed to a show sure to satisfy any melodeath fan, and surely any long-time fan of Insomnium.
