Visions of atlantis with guest seraina telli

Just one year ago, Visions of Atlantis took the stage at Dickens Pub as part of a support lineup for Korpiklaani—an energetic set that was unfortunately marred by persistent sound issues throughout the night. But on April 15, 2025, they returned to that same venue, now as headliners—and this time, the experience was immersive, theatrical, and with a quality of sound that allowed fans in the modest-sized venue to appreciate the full performance fully.

THE OPENER: SERAINA TELLI

The night began with Swiss vocalist and guitarist Seraina Telli, formerly of Burning Witches. Armed with only a drummer and her own formidable stage presence, Seraina launched into a powerful set that immediately grabbed the attention of the growing crowd. Her vocal range was dynamic, raw, and emotionally charged, all while delivering each song with intensity and flair. Her sound defied easy classification; influences of hard rock, heavy metal, and pop elements interwove seamlessly into a style that felt wholly her own. The stripped-down setup allowed her voice and performance style to take centre stage, and she made the most of it—commanding the audience’s attention not just through her performance, but with a playful and confident stage presence that felt personal and unfiltered. It was a reminder that sometimes, all it takes is two musicians and a lot of heart to set the tone for a solid performance.

Then came the main event. As Visions of Atlantis emerged under dramatic lighting and oceanic stage décor, it became clear that this wasn’t going to be just a metal show—it was going to be a theatrical production. Known for their blend of symphonic metal, fantasy themes, and pirate-inspired storytelling, the Austrian band brought a level of professionalism and artistry that elevated the entire evening.

With the venue’s overhauled sound system—an upgrade reportedly spurred by last year’s flawed performance—the difference in audio quality was instantly apparent. Every orchestral swell, chugging riff, and vocal harmony rang out with clarity and fullness. This pristine sound made it easy to fully appreciate the intricate layers of the band’s music, including both vocalists, drums, and sweeping symphonic backing tracks – it’s quite an art and science to make each element stand out, and they certainly achieved it this time.

Fronted by the charismatic duo of Clémentine Delauney and Michele Guaitoli, Visions of Atlantis blurred the line between concert and musical theatre. Their chemistry was undeniable, trading verses and harmonies with operatic finesse and dramatic storytelling that brought their nautical narratives vividly to life. The visual production—complete with atmospheric lighting, nautical props, and costuming—only deepened the immersive effect.

Perhaps most impressive was the crowd itself. Fans came fully ready to set sail, with inflatable swords bobbing above the pit and pirate attire peppering the room. The energy in the venue was electric, and the band fed off that enthusiasm, delivering a set that felt equal parts concert, performance art, and communal celebration.

From start to finish, the night was a resounding success. Seraina Telli offered a bold and unique opening set that stood confidently on its own, while Visions of Atlantis delivered a headlining performance worthy of an even larger stage. The show was theatrical, powerful, and emotionally resonant—a triumphant return to Calgary that left no doubt: Visions of Atlantis are at the peak of their creative power, and they’ve truly mastered the art of performance.

Visions of Atlantis blurred the line between metal concert and musical theatre—delivering a performance that was as immersive as it was unforgettable.
