The world’s first and (possibly) only self-identified Italian dwarf metallers Wind Rose played a sold-out MacEwan Hall with German symphonic metal outfit Xandria in Calgary last week, and we had the chance to check it out! The night started off with Xandria, a German symphonic metal group with a 30 year legacy. While some unforeseen circumstances resulted in a lineup change for this run, the group put on a brief, energetic set sure to please us long-time Xandria fans:
Headliners Wind Rose brought a fantastical, jovial performance for a highly spirited audience armed with inflatable pick-axes and plastic dwarves. The band skyrocketed in popularity in 2019 with their beautifully orchestrated and re-imagined version of Diggy Diggy Hole and quickly established a loyal fanbase. Along with this song, the band performed an absolutely stellar set that captivated the room:
